Beautiful Moments

I love to soak up the little moments that make me feel alive. Those beautiful moments when, despite all of the crazy things going on, time slows down and life stops moving just for a little while. For me, this is watching the sunrise. Being in the middle of nowhere and looking up at the thousands of stars in the night sky. A really great hug when you need it the most. Reading the last few pages of a really good book. Listening to a great song, on a long car journey, with the people you love the most in this world. Standing on the shore where all you can hear is the roaring of the wind and the waves crashing against the rocks. All that you can feel is the cold air and the sea spray on your face.

Today’s adventures in the New Forest with my family definitely makes it onto that list of beautiful moments.

Our first stop was Highcliffe Beach in Dorset. In the Summer, this beach is warm and very sandy. It makes the perfect place to be with family, read a good book and enjoy the sun. For the rest of year, the beach is empty with high tides, a cold breeze, and the waves are so loud you can’t hear yourself think. It reminds me of childhood adventures and long summer days. But most of all, it makes time stand still. It is the one thing in my life that never changes. I can go away for years and it is always exactly how I remember it when I return. It is, without a doubt, my favourite place to be.

Our next stop was Burley. This is a tiny village in the New Forest that lets it’s animals roam freely and is surrounded by woodland and heathland. Burley has an exciting history of being a favourite meeting place for smugglers.Β Old tales also say that the village was once the location of a dragon’s lair. Most of all, Burley is known for white magic. Burley’s small selection of shops all provide things associated with white magic, healing, protection and meditation. The shops smell amazing with their vast collections of candles and incense.Β Burley is so unusual and so magical, it can feel like you have stepped into a fairytale.

Finally, we had a mini adventure in Lyndhurst. This is a much larger village that isn’t as magical as Burley but it is still beautiful. Here, I made friends with a horse. This is unusual because I find horses scary. I stood 6ft away from the horse and said “Hello Miss Horse, how are you?” (talking to animals is my favourite thing) and the horse came straight over to greet me. It was a fun end to the day!
