“Maybe there’s something you’re afraid to say, or someone you’re afraid to love, or somewhere you’re afraid to go. It’s gonna hurt. It’s gonna hurt because it matters.”

Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a novel by John Green (author of The Fault in Our Stars) and David Levithan. The book’s narrative is divided evenly between two teenage boys named Will Grayson, with John Green haven written all of the chapters for one and David Levithan having written the chapters for the other.  These two guys are running in two very different circles until they both find their lives going in new and unexpected directions.

__________

I started reading John’s work just over a year ago and couldn’t get enough. One day I bought all of his books and worked my way through each of them, leaving Will Grayson until last. It was a perfect way to end it!! This book is a little different to the rest of his books. First of all, alternate chapters are written by David Levithan, from Will #2’s point of view. I loved this because both authors have such a distinct and very different way of writing so this made the book so exciting to read – I just never got bored of reading about each character’s life. Because each chapter is written from a Will’s point of view it also meant that rather than reading one chapter at I time I was desperate to read 2 chapters at a time just so I could see how things were going for the other Will! Will Grayson is also REALLY funny. The characters are fantastic, especially John’s Will and the fabulous Tiny Cooper. There is some expected romance in the book but this novel also covers topics including sexuality, online relationships and primarily, friendship.

I found this book quite difficult to get into it at first – I’m not sure why, maybe it just took some time to get to know both Wills? Either way, once I got into it there was no escape. I read through it so fast I was so disappointed it had to end. *SPOILER* It does include a fantastic musical.

It is difficult not to say too much about this book. Like the rest of John’s work there is love, heartbreak and a lot of laughs. It is definitely worth a read if you want something short and reasonably light hearted to read. I’ve just got my fingers crossed that we might get some more movie announcements sometime soon!!!!
